Roguestorm Beats Wishlist on Steam

PRIVACY

How we handle information when you play the game, demo or playtest, visit this website, or contact us.

Last updated: 2026-10-08.

Who is responsible

BC Gamez develops and publishes Roguestorm Beats and operates this website. In this policy, “we” means BC Gamez, the controller of the personal information we handle. This policy covers the full game, its free demo (including the itch.io edition), playtests, and this marketing website. For privacy questions or requests, contact bcgamez.support@gmail.com.

Publisher location: United States.

You do not need a separate account with us to play. Optional play statistics are off until you agree. Steam statistics, public leaderboard features and a survey you choose to submit work separately from that choice. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

Information kept on your device

The game saves your progress, settings, control bindings, achievements, scores and tracks you compose on your device. The demo and full game use separate career save files. Your choice about sharing play statistics is saved locally even when you decline. Local game logs may contain technical diagnostics; the game does not automatically upload those log files or crash dumps to us.

The data sent by online features is described below. We do not collect microphone recordings, webcam images, payment-card details or files unrelated to the game. Purchases and downloads through Steam or itch.io are handled by those platforms under their own policies.

Optional play statistics

Where a build offers SHARE PLAY STATS, you can choose whether to send gameplay and performance information to help us improve the music, balance, tutorials and reliability. Current demo, full-game and playtest builds support this option. No requests to our play-statistics collector are made until you opt in or choose to submit the separate survey below.

If you opt in, the information includes:

  • A randomly generated installation ID, session and run identifiers, event order and timing, game version and distribution channel, and the time our service receives the data.
  • Play time, progress, tutorials and menus used, songs and instruments selected, composing and editing actions, equipment and upgrades, purchases with in-game currency, results, scores, song ratings and use of the game's store or community buttons.
  • Operating-system family and language, CPU and graphics hardware descriptions, graphics driver and renderer, memory and processor-thread counts, screen and window sizes, refresh rate, connected-controller count, input method, game settings, frame-rate measurements and whether the previous session ended abruptly.

These records are pseudonymous: the random ID lets us group sessions from the same installation. They are not anonymous. The telemetry payload does not include your name, email, Steam ID, IP address, typed track names or custom key bindings. Names you give your tracks are replaced with an installation-specific hash. Online requests still expose connection information to hosting services, as explained below.

Change your choice in OPTIONS → GAME DATA → HELP IMPROVE THE GAME → SHARE PLAY STATS. Turning it off stops further optional recording and sending and deletes queued statistics and the random ID from your device. It does not recall information already received by us. Opting in again creates a new ID. Resetting career progress is not a withdrawal of an existing opt-in; use the switch to withdraw it.

A survey you choose to send

The optional in-game survey asks about your overall experience, difficulty, music and interest in buying the full game. A submitted response includes the answers provided, the number of runs, minutes in the current session, whether questions were skipped, whether play statistics are enabled, and the event identifiers and timing described above. The current survey has no free-text field.

You can skip the survey. Submitting it is a separate choice to share feedback and can send a response even when SHARE PLAY STATS is off. With play statistics enabled, it is associated with that installation's records. Otherwise it uses a fresh, one-time random installation ID, without saving that ID or a survey upload queue to disk.

Steam platform statistics

Steam builds use Steamworks to save gameplay counters on your Steam account, including launches, play time, progression, completed runs, gameplay choices and feature use. We use the aggregate statistics Steam makes available to understand how the game is played. These platform counters operate independently of SHARE PLAY STATS; switching optional telemetry off does not disable them. The itch.io edition does not include the Steam integration.

Valve handles Steam account, purchase, download and platform information under the Steam Privacy Policy. Steam's own settings and support govern information it controls.

Public leaderboards and score verification

In builds that include THE CHARTS, playing a leaderboard run while connected to Steam starts score verification and can automatically submit the result. You are told in the game that these runs are public. The current full game and playtest include this feature; the current demo has it disabled. Previously submitted scores can remain on their boards.

The game sends our verification service a Steam authentication ticket, game and board identifiers, build information, a run ticket, score details and a gameplay ledger. The ledger includes your Steam ID, songs and equipment, timing, progress and scoring events. Steam supplies the player's Steam ID, the licence owner's Steam ID where different, and relevant ban status. We use these to authenticate players, validate scores, prevent duplicate or invalid submissions and maintain fair rankings. A shared licence can have its score recorded under its owner's account.

Accepted scores and details are sent to Steam. Your Steam display name, ranking, points, songs, gear and run results can be visible to other players. The game reads Steam IDs and display names to show the board. Our service keeps verification records, accepted gameplay ledgers and operational logs that can include Steam IDs, scores, ranks and refusal reasons.

This feature is separate from optional telemetry. You can avoid public score submissions by not playing leaderboard runs while connected. A run already authorised for submission may remain queued locally and be retried when the board is next reached. Turning off SHARE PLAY STATS or resetting local progress does not remove an existing public score. Contact us about records we control.

Website, connection data and videos

Our website does not set its own cookies or use browser storage, advertising pixels or visitor-analytics scripts. Its pages and media are hosted through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Requests to the website and our game services necessarily expose an IP address and technical request information, such as the requested address, time, browser or client headers and any referring page, to the infrastructure delivering them. These are processed to deliver and secure the services. Our signup and telemetry applications do not add IP addresses or browser headers to their stored records.

AWS CloudFront can derive a country from a connection's IP address. Our collector supports using that country to limit where telemetry is accepted; no country restriction is currently enabled, and country is not added to stored telemetry events. Hosting providers may also process service and security information under their own terms.

The gameplay trailer is hosted with this website. Playback connects to our hosting provider when you press play.

Links to Steam, itch.io, Discord and social platforms take you to services with their own privacy policies. Following a link allows that service to receive your visit information.

Launch email signup

If you enter your email address and press Notify me, we keep the address and submission time to send the launch notification you requested. The address is encrypted using AWS Key Management Service before it is stored; the receiving application's permissions do not allow it to decrypt the list. The signup record does not include your IP address, browser or referring page.

Signing up is optional and based on your consent. The list is for people aged 16 and over. To withdraw consent or ask for correction or removal, email bcgamez.support@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. Any launch email will include a way to come off the list. We do not use this signup as permission for unrelated marketing.

Contacting us

If you email us, we receive your email address, the name shown by your email service, your message and any attachments or diagnostic information you choose to provide. We use them to respond, troubleshoot and handle privacy requests. Our published support address is hosted by Google's Gmail service. Please include only information relevant to your request.

Why we use information

Where European or UK data-protection law applies, we rely on consent for optional play statistics, a survey you choose to send and email signup. You may withdraw consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. We use information necessary to provide requested game and leaderboard features to perform our contract with you. Our legitimate interests are operating and securing the services, preventing invalid scores, resolving support requests and understanding aggregate Steam usage. We may also keep or disclose information when necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

Optional statistics, survey answers and signup are not required to play the game. Authentication and run information are needed to post a public leaderboard score. Score validation is automated and can reject a submission; we do not use these records to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Service providers and international processing

AWS hosts the website, collector, email signup and leaderboard-verification service and stores their records in the United States, primarily its Ohio region (us-east-2); content delivery uses its global network. Google processes support email and, when you load it, YouTube playback. Valve processes Steam integration and leaderboard data. Public leaderboard details are also available to other players. We may disclose relevant information when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights and service security.

Information may be processed outside your country, where privacy laws differ. For applicable transfers of customer data through AWS, its data-processing terms include standard contractual clauses and UK transfer provisions. Google and Valve describe their international processing in their linked privacy policies. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to information we control.

How long information is kept

  • Local saves and diagnostics: remain on your device until overwritten or deleted. Uninstalling may leave saved data behind. Unsent telemetry is held in a size-limited local queue until delivered, displaced by newer queued data or deleted when you turn sharing off.
  • Telemetry and survey records: have no fixed automatic expiry at present. We retain them for analysing the relevant builds, comparing changes and investigating gameplay or performance issues. Retention is assessed against those purposes and deletion requests.
  • Leaderboard verification records: have no fixed automatic expiry at present. They are retained to operate the rankings, verify historical scores and investigate invalid submissions or disputes. A run ticket's validity period is not a deletion deadline. Steam retains account statistics and published scores under its own policies.
  • Service application logs: are configured to expire after 14 days. Temporary telemetry query results in AWS are configured to expire after 7 days; this does not delete the underlying events or any separately retained reports.
  • Signup records: are kept until you withdraw consent or the launch notification has served its purpose and the list is deleted. Removal is handled on request; signup records do not currently expire automatically.
  • Support correspondence: is kept as needed to resolve the request and related issues, document our response and meet applicable legal obligations.

We may retain information longer where needed for a legal obligation or dispute. Aggregate information that no longer identifies a person or installation may be retained to understand the game's performance over time.

Your choices and privacy rights

Contact bcgamez.support@gmail.com to request access to, correction or deletion of information we hold about you. Depending on applicable law, you may also request a portable copy, restriction of processing, withdraw consent, and complain to your local data-protection authority. In the UK, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify that a request concerns your records.

Right to object: where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object to that processing on grounds relating to your situation. Contact us to exercise this right.

For signup or support records, use the relevant email address. For leaderboards, identify your Steam account and the board. For optional telemetry, we normally cannot locate your records using an email address or Steam ID because those are not in the telemetry. If you still have the random installation ID in your local save, you can provide it; contact us for help locating it before turning sharing off, which deletes the ID. Do not send passwords or Steam authentication tickets. A survey sent under a one-time ID may not be identifiable later. We will explain any limits on fulfilling your request.

Declining optional sharing does not prevent play. Deleting local data does not delete information already sent to us or Steam, and withdrawing consent does not automatically erase past submissions. Platform information controlled by Valve, Google or itch.io must also be managed through that provider.

Children's information

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate. The launch email list is intended for people aged 16 and over.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the services or our information practices change and revise the date above. If a change requires a new choice or consent, we will provide that before applying it.
